Christmas is the most magical time of the year. And if not magic, then at least luck, cleverness and courage will be needed for Radó and Maxi to find the magic ladle that has been stolen from their grandfather, King Ali. It is with this ladle that the king cooks his famous Christmas dinner for all the subjects in his kingdom. The two grandchildren set off in a bus on skis through the deepest snow to climb several hills where they might possibly find the ladle thief, whether it is the grumpy hermit, the Yeti, the dragon or the shady fairy who can transform himself into a hairy green beast. With a trick they succeed in recovering the ladle and saving the feast. With her children’s book debut Ancsa Simonfalvi relates a classical Christmas story with modern touches and witty twists and turns. Írisz Agócs has created dynamic, softly inked pictures for the scenes and characters of the story. The title was chosen by IBBY Hungary as the children’s book of the year.
